Recently, I went down to visit my mother in Florida. She has System76 Koala as her main workstation. She has run her own business all her life as a Piano/Organ Teacher. While I was there she asked me to connect her Yamaha Clavinova keyboard to the computer via the Midi protocol. So, first we bought a MIDI to USB cable, and then I installed UbuntuStudio so that we could have the low-latency kernel plus all the easy setup on the machine. (Everything is Gutsy) So Rosegarden nicely made sounds when I plotted notes on the staff, plus when I had added the drivers in the repos for the midi-to-usb cable we were using it was seen by the computer. However, and this is the big problem, I was unable to get a data stream into Rosegarden via the cable nor was I able to control the keyboard through the Output. This was true across a couple of other applications. I had to return home before I was able to get things working better, but I am still able to access the machine and I am also able to get a reliable set of hands and eye over there, but it would be nice if we can find a way to solve this problem.

Touch Me, I'm Sick
Thanks to a reader out there in the blogosphere, Dean, I was pointed to a very handy forum page. The result of following these directions, I now have touchscreen support. After some hacking on a train, I got the stylus to be fairly accurate. SO here's the scoop:
There is more work that needs to be done to make the stylus pixel perfect accurate, as it stands now there is about five or six pixels of difference, but it does work.

- Make certain that the BIOS is selected to "touch panel" not "tablet"
- installe the evtouch driver, which is as simple as "sudo apt-get install evtouch"
- Then here is my xorg.conf

I am an Associate.
After two years o hard work, even writing papers on my honey moon, I have now received my first college degree. My final GPA for the course of study is a 3.2, which I am quite proud to have earned. Next I will pursue my Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science with a focus in the discipline of Internet Engineering. I have transferred to a new academy, Ellis College at New York Institute of Technology for this educational path. New school, new website. Also requires that I use Internet Explorer and Shockwave, which I can run on my computer through the purchase of CrossOver for Linux. This certainly is my least favorite aspect of the new school thus far, however there are some aspects of the new school which I find much more appealling- they do actually offer a degree in ComSci!!
Anyways, I am quite happy to have completed all of that, and now look forward to what's in front of me.

Facebook Executive Discusses Beacon Brouhaha - Bits - Technology - New York Times Blog
“One of the things we try to do is listen to feedback as much as possible. Just to give you where a lot of this feedback is coming from, it’s coming more from the press than specific users,” he said. “Right now, the right thing to do is to make sure we speak to actual users, not the pundits.”
Just so you know, I'm not a pundit and I am no longer spending time using Facebook because of Beacon.
